Inquire about other services such as call waiting, caller id, call forwarding, call return (call 69), long distance, 911, mail box and answering services. Most plans have many of these services already incorporated into the plan.
Make sure that you are registered with your local community services through 911. In some areas you are required to give the information to the first responders yourself because they cannot get your address and other information from other phone companies. It is your responsibility to make sure that 911 can find you.
Step 3 – Income Based
Ask your current home phone company if they have a plan that is based on your income if you qualify. There are inexpensive plans available for individuals in certain income brackets.
This option is usually only available for low income families. You will need to prove that you are low income and qualify for the program. You will also only receive the minimum amount of phone services possible. Long distance and other services may not be available.
